Exquisite egoist.
I have encountered this phrase far too much time since I started my university. I entered Micro-Entrepreneur Alliance at first and it's very typical for an entrepreneur to label
themselves as "devoted" or "selfless". I do confess that some of them are doing quite awesome work that will probably change our lives afterwards,so at that time, I told myself that I would like to be that kind of person and I would never be an "exquisite egoist ".
But what kind of people can be described as "exquisite egoists"? The original definition that was put forward by a professor in Peking University is "a person who is highly intelligent, secular, very good in disguise and do well in cashing in the system ".The professor late added that if power are given to those kind of people, the result would turn out to be a catastrophe.
Now that I have left the alliance,I can ponder the problem in a more objective perspective. Is it fair to criticize those students in this ironic way? I mean, not every student has a understanding clear enough for them to judge themselves right. When I was in the alliance, I kept asking myself "do I act like a egoist today?"I was so anxious about if I being decent that I can hardly concentrate on things I really want to do. The first standard I would like to adopt was "did I cash in the system?"Sadly, the answer always turned out to be,yes.
And that's the exact point I feel unfair. We were taught to obey the rules and stuck to the regulations when we were too far away to be exposed under such theory that cashing in the system may become a feature of an "exquisite egoist". We struggle hard to adapt to the situation and after such a long path we are told it's wrong.
I know the professor doesn't mean "one size fits all ",he merely pointed out some characters those exquisite egoist shared in common ,but at our age,it's too hard for us to be impartial and objective on ourselves.Doubts start creeping in our minds, the sense of inferiority nearly drives us mad.
We don't need a Utopia,we want truth.Truth that is powerful enough to back up our thoughts.
We reject bias,we want justice.Justice that is convincing enough to prove whether we are right or wrong.
We don't want worn-out dogmas,we cry for data, researches, and other voices against the single theory.
After all,to be honest, those so-called exquisite egoists will become the tower of strength in the near future.
